[Mr Speaker in the Chair]
Mr Simon S C Tay asked the Minister for Law if he is considering amendments to the Constitution and current laws in view of the recent decision of the Court of Appeal on the constitutionality of section 27 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The Minister of State for Law (Assoc. Prof. Ho Peng Kee) (for the Minister for Law): Mr Speaker, Sir, in view of the Court of Appeal's decision made on 24th February 1998 that Parliament has the power to enact extra-territorial laws and that section 27 of the Prevention of Corruption Act does not violate the equal protection clause in the Constitution, it would appear that it is not necessary to consider any amendments to the Constitution. A final decision will be taken after we have carefully studied the written judgment when it is given.
