The following question stood in the name of Mrs Yu-Foo Yee Shoon -

Mrs Yu-Foo Yee Shoon: To ask the Minister for National Development, as the economic downturn has severely affected the business of shopkeepers in Housing and Development Board estates, whether he will consider lowering the rental charges for shops.

Dr Vasoo: Question No. 8, Sir.

The Minister for National Development (Mr Lim Hng Kiang): Mr Speaker, Sir, the Minister for Trade and Industry, in his answer to the previous Question, has also outlined what HDB has done to assist the shop tenants. HDB will continue to monitor the situation closely and, if the need arises, introduce additional measures to assist its tenants.
