Mr Chiam See Tong asked the Minister for National Development whether the Government will upgrade the children's playground at Butterfly Avenue in Sennett Estate.
The Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for National Development (Mr Koo Tsai Kee) (for the Minister for National Development): Mr Speaker, Sir, the playground at Butterfly Avenue which is currently being managed and maintained by National Parks, has the typical facilities of a playground of its size. The size is about 0.175 hectares. National Parks has, over the past three years, replaced damaged and worn out facilities in the playground. National Parks has also recently worked with the Ministry of the Environment on the reconstruction of the roadside drain adjacent to the playground and covered it with a footpath. This, I believe, has improved access to the playground.
Sir, apart from the regular maintenance of the facilities in the playground, there are currently no plans to upgrade the playground further. Most of the facilities are in relatively good condition, and the provision of additional facilities will, I think, clutter the playground.
Mr Chiam See Tong: Sir, there is also another playground at Chempaka Avenue. Does his Ministry intend to do anything to improve this playground?
Mr Koo Tsai Kee: Sir, if Mr Chiam has any suggestion, we will be happy to look at it.
