LIGHT RAIL TRANSIT SYSTEM ALONG HOUGANG AVENUE 1 AND HOUGANG AVENUE 3

Dr Ker Sin Tze asked the Minister for Communications whether he will consider building a Light Rail Transit system along Hougang Avenue 1 and Hougang Avenue 3 to connect with the proposed Kovan MRT station.

Mr Mah Bow Tan: The Land Transport Authority (LTA) is looking into potential sites for future MRT/LRT developments. One of the potential sites that it has identified for further study is a network to serve the Ang Mo Kio/Hougang/Toa Payoh/Bishan area.

I will ask the LTA to include in this study the hon. Member's suggestion to link Hougang Avenue 1 and Hougang Avenue 3 to the proposed Kovan Station of the North East MRT line.
