EXTRADITION TREATY WITH INDONESIA

Mr Chiam See Tong asked the Minister for Law whether Singapore will sign an extradition treaty with Indonesia.

Prof. S. Jayakumar: Indonesian Justice Minister Muladi recently met with our Ambassador in Jakarta and raised the issue of an Extradition Treaty between Indonesia and Singapore. The Indonesians have indicated that they would like to explore the possibility of an extradition treaty. We will have to study the Indonesian request. It is too early at this stage to say whether or when Singapore will sign an Extradition Treaty with Indonesia.
