Mr Gerard Ee asked the Prime Minister, with the proliferation of degree courses being offered by various public and private institutions, whether the Public Service Commission will release a list of recognised and preferred qualifications so that members of the public may make an informed choice when enrolling for a course.

BG Lee Hsien Loong (for the Prime Minister): Mr Speaker, Sir, the Public Service Commission does not assess or grant recognition to degrees awarded by overseas universities for employment purposes as it is not in the position to judge qualifications awarded by institutions all over the world. Moreover, each individual employer in the private or public sector should be left to decide on the criteria for recruitment based on its organisational strategies and needs. This includes the type of qualification acceptable for employment in each organisation.
