UPGRADING WORK AT SENNETT ESTATE: The following Question stood in the name of Mr Chiam See Tong -

11. To ask the Minister for National Development whether the upgrading work at Sennett Estate, as promised by the Prime Minister, has commenced and, if not, when will the work commence.

Mr Steve Chia Kiah Hong: Question No. 11, Sir.

The Minister of State for National Development (Dr Vivian Balakrishnan) (for the Minister for National Development): Mr Speaker, Sir, since the announcement of the Estate Upgrading Programme at Sennett Estate in January 2003, a Working Committee comprising the CCC Advisor, and volunteers from the grassroots organisations, has been formed to gather feedback from the residents on the desired upgrading items. The Working Committee will next be working with the residents, relevant public agencies (ie, LTA, PUB, URA, NParks and SLA), the implementing agent and consultants on the detailed planning and design.

It usually takes about 12 to 18 months to do the planning and design, after which work can begin.
