Dr Chong Weng Chiew asked the Prime Minister and Minister for Finance whether there will be a corresponding increase in the budget for the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports, with its enlarged portfolio.

Mr Lee Hsien Loong: The Government has made reaching out to youth one of its priorities. It renamed the Ministry of Community Development and Sports as the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports to reflect this emphasis, although youth matters have always been under the purview of MCDS. If MCYS requires more funding going forward, it will put its case to the Ministry of Finance for consideration during the annual budgeting process. MOF will scrutinise any requests rigorously but sympathetically.
