ELECTORAL BOUNDARIES REVIEW COMMITTEE:

(Report) 1\. Dr Ong Chit Chung asked the Prime Minister and Minister for Finance whether he has appointed the Electoral Boundaries Review Committee and, if so, when will the Committee submit its report.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs (Mr Wong Kan Seng) (for the Prime Minister and Minister for Finance): Sir, the Prime Minister appointed the Electoral Boundaries Review Committee in November last year. The Committee has not submitted the report to the Prime Minister yet.

Mr Steve Chia Kiah Hong (Non-Constituency Member): Sir, can we expect an increase in the number of constituencies considering that the population of Singapore has increased significantly since the last General Election? Can we also expect to have smaller Group Representation Constituency size of three and four, implying that there will be more single-Member constituencies at the next General Election?

Mr Wong Kan Seng: Sir, I do not have the answers to these questions because

the report has not been submitted by the Committee. So I cannot tell the Member whether there will be an increase in the number of constituencies or whether there will be smaller GRCs or more single-Member constituencies.

Dr Ong Chit Chung (Jurong): Sir, may I ask the Deputy Prime Minister when will he expect the Committee to submit its report?

Mr Wong Kan Seng: Sir, the Committee was appointed in November. I hope the Committee will submit its report soon. I think that it should be soon.
