SUMMONSES FOR NON-PAYMENT OF ERP CHARGES
**
(Number): **
21.
Mr Lim Biow Chuan asked the Minister for Transport (a) if he will provide the number of motorists who have been summoned for non-payment of ERP charges over the past three months and, of these, the number of cases which were due to defective cash cards; and (b) whether the problem with defective cash cards has been resolved.
Mr Raymond Lim Siang Keat: The joint investigations conducted by the Land Transport Authority (or LTA) and NETS from May to October last year pointed to some 2,900 NETS CashCards as the cause of compatibility problems when used in the In-Vehicle Unit (IU). The affected cards have been replaced with new generation NETS CashCards. The number of motorists who turned up at LTA Authorised Inspection Centres to have their NETS CashCards and IUs tested has since returned to normal levels.
In November and December last year, there were about 70,000 cases of non-payment of ERP charges. Of these, only 23 cases were found to be related to compatibility problems, indicating that most of the problems are behind us.
Nevertheless, LTA is monitoring the situation closely and will continue to offer motorists a one-stop centre for integrated testing of their NETS CashCards and IUs at LTA Authorised Inspection Centres.
