INCREASE IN ELECTRICITY TARIFF:
(Consumer protection): 13.
Ms Ellen Lee asked the Minister for Trade and Industry (a) if he will explain Energy Market Authority's (EMA) recently announced increase of about 21% in the electricity tariffs when the forward oil prices for the fourth quarter in the open market has actually dropped and is available at a much cheaper price than the $155 per barrel stated by EMA; and (b) whether there is a professional group of analysts/traders helping EMA to seek out the best/lowest prices since its primary obligation is to protect the consumers in Singapore.
Ms Ellen Lee (Sembawang): Sir, actually, the Minister has already answered this question in his earlier reply.
Mr Iswaran (for the Minister for Trade and Indusry): Sir, if Ms Ellen Lee is satisfied, then I need not answer.
Yes, thank you.
