STAMP DUTY
**
(Transfer of dutiable assets): **
1.
Prof. Thio Li-ann asked the Minister for Finance in light of the abolition of estate duty whether the Ministry intends to abolish the stamp duty for transfer of dutiable assets from the estate of the deceased to their heirs.
Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam: Assets (both immovable properties and unlisted shares) distributed to beneficiaries in accordance to a will, Intestate Succession Act and Muslim Law of Inheritance are currently only subject to a nominal stamp duty of $10. The nominal fee is charged for the stamping of the documents of transfer. This stamp duty treatment of transfers under such circumstances will continue to apply, even with the abolition of estate duty.
