INSTALLATION OF ERP GANTRY

**

(North-bound CTE): **

7.

Mr Lim Biow Chuan asked the Minister for Transport whether the Land Transport Authority will consider installing the evening ERP gantry on the north-bound CTE at the PIE exit instead of across the entire north-bound CTE.

Mr Raymond Lim Siang Keat: ERP is a traffic management tool for managing the use of high demand roads and expressways to ensure that traffic speeds remain within the optimal speed range. An expressway like the CTE may have more than one congested stretch due to varying number of vehicles entering and exiting the expressway at different locations. This is the reason why a new ERP gantry is introduced on the north-bound CTE; namely to enable congestion at two different stretches of the north-bound CTE to be addressed more specifically and effectively.

Column: 1655

Motorists who use the entire stretch of the north-bound CTE will be charged for contributing to congestion at both locations. However, those that pass through one congested stretch will be charged only for that location. This is an equitable approach, as all motorists who use and contribute to congestion on the CTE will be charged accordingly, regardless of where they enter or exit the CTE.
