Mr Lim Cher Kheng asked the Chief Secretary whether he is aware that there is an urgent need for more Kathis to be stationed in the rural areas; and whether one stationed in the Changi and Bedok Districts, where hardship is being caused, will be appointed as early as possible.
Mr W. A. C. Goode: The Government is not aware of any shortage of Kathis in the rural areas in general.
As far as the Bedok-Changi districts are concerned, a Kathi was temporarily transferred to that area on 1st September, 1955, but a permanent appointment is likely to be made in the near future to fill the vacancy caused by the death of the substantive Kathi.
