[Mr Speaker in the Chair]
Mr Lim Ching Siong asked the Chief Secretary what were the reasons for the refusal to register the Singapore Seletar Chinese Old Boys' Association.
Mr J. D. Higham: The hon. Member is misinformed. The Registrar of Societies is awaiting a reply from the President of the proposed Association to a letter dated 19th September.
Mr Lee Kuan Yew: Is the Chief Secretary aware that the Registrar of Societies had, in fact, refused to register this Association unless some conditions were accepted?
Mr Higham: As far as I am aware, the Registrar has not refused. He has requested the President to amend one of the rules of the proposed Association and he has had no reply to his suggestion.
Mr Lee Kuan Yew: Is the Chief Secretary aware that the proposed Association has refused to comply with this condition?
Mr Higham: No, Sir.
