The Assistant Minister for Local Government, Lands and Housing (Mr Tan Theng Chiang): Mr Speaker, Sir, I beg to move.
That this Assembly, in accordance with subsection (2) of section 29 of the Registration of Deeds Ordinance (Chapter 255), resolves that the Registration of Deeds (Amendment) Rules, 1956, made by the Minister for Local Government, Lands and Housing on the 15th day of August, 1956, and published as Notification No. S 226 in the Gazette Supplement No. 55 of 17th August, 1956, as contained in Sessional Paper No. S.L. 25 of 1956, be approved.
Sir, this is a straightforward matter. The Registration of Deeds (Amendment) Ordinance, 1956, which came into operation on the 20th of June, 1956, gave legal sanction to the inspection by the public of microfilm copies of deeds instead of original copies. The amendment of the Ordinance made necessary a few consequential amendments to the Registration of Deeds Rules, 1934, and the approval of this Assembly for these amendments is required under section 29 (2) of the Registration of Deeds Ordinance (Chapter 255). Sir, I beg to move.
Mr J. M. Jumabhoy: Sir, I second the motion.
Question put, and agreed to.
Resolved,
That this Assembly, in accordance with subsection (2) of section 29 of the Registration of Deeds Ordinance (Chapter 255), resolves that the Registration of Deeds (Amendment) Rules, 1956, made by the Minister for Local Government, Lands and Housing on the 15th day of August, 1956, and published as Notification No. S 226 in the Gazette Supplement No. 55 of 17th August, 1956, as contained in Sessional Paper No. S.L. 25 of 1956, be approved.
