PLAYFAIR ROAD (Repair and maintenance)

Mr Lim Koon Teck asked the Minister for Local Government, Lands and Housing, whether Playfair Road leading to Playfair School will be repaired and maintained either by the City Council or the Public Works Department.

Mr J. M. Jumabhoy (for the Minister for Local Government, Lands and Housing): Mr Speaker, Sir, Playfair Road is at present a private street and the City Council is now proposing to take action under section 103 of the Municipal Ordinance to make up this private road. A survey of the road has already been completed and estimates of costs are being drawn up for apportionment of costs among the frontagers. Work is expected to commence during the second half of this year.
