Order for Second Reading read.

3.01 p.m.

Mr Lee Kuan Yew: Mr Speaker, Sir, I move, "That the Bill be now read a Second time."

I have nothing to add to the Explanatory Note given at the bottom of the Bill and to what I have said when I moved the motion to introduce this Bill.

Question proposed.

The Minister for Labour and Welfare (Mr Lim Yew Hock): Mr Speaker, Sir, the Labour Ministry has been working on a comprehensive amending Bill as a result of the experience gained over the operation of the Labour Ordinance. The subject matter of this Bill is one of the amendments which have been under the consideration of my Ministry. We therefore support this Bill.

Question put, and agreed to.

Bill accordingly read a Second time and committed to a Committee of the whole Assembly.

Assembly immediately resolved itself into a Committee on the Bill. [Mr Lee Kuan Yew].

Bill considered in Committee; reported without Amendment; read the Third time and passed.
