The Chief Minister (Dr Lim Yew Hock): Mr Speaker, Sir, I beg to move,

That this Assembly resolves that for the better maintenance of the privileges of the Legislative Assembly the Commissioner of Police be requested to make such orders and do all necessary acts and things as are required to ensure that on each day on which the Assembly is sitting during the present session due order and decorum are maintained and preserved in and around the precincts of the Assembly House.

Sir, at the sitting held on 5th September, 1956, this House resolved that at the beginning of each session of this Assembly the Commissioner of Police should be requested to make such orders and to take such action as may be necessary to ensure that that there shall be no disorder in the vicinity of the Assembly House on any day on which the Assembly is sitting. Accordingly, Sir, I move the motion standing in my name.

Mr Chew Swee Kee: I second it.

Mr Speaker: The Question is,

"That this Assembly resolves that for the better maintenance of the privileges of the Legislative Assembly the Commissioner of Police be requested to make such orders and do all necessary acts and things as are required to ensure that on each day-"

[At this point, the Minister for Commerce and industry (Mr J. M. Jumabhoy) walked across the Floor.]

Mr Speaker: Order. Will the hon. Member please sit down?

Mr J. M. Jumabhoy resumed his seat.

Mr Speaker: Hon. Members are perhaps not aware that when the Speaker is on his feet, no Member should rise or enter the Chamber.

Question put, and agreed to.

Resolved,

That this Assembly resolves that for the better maintenance of the privileges of the Legislative Assembly the Commissioner of Police be requested to make such orders and do all necessary acts and things as are required to ensure that on each day on which the Assembly is sitting during the present session due order and decorum are maintained and preserved in and around the precincts of the Assembly House.
