Mr David Marshall asked the Minister for Finance whether the Government would consider introducing legislation to enforce a minimum standard of service from banks in Singapore,
Dr Goh Keng Swee: The Government is introducing a Banking Bill today on a Certificate of Urgency, Mr Speaker, Sir.
Mr David Marshall: I have seen the Bill and I would ask the Minister whether he is satisfied that the provisions about the clearing house there would be adequate to meet the contingencies such as those which have occurred lately in respect of the curtailment of inter-bank clearances of cheques where one of the banks' employees is on strike.
Mr Speaker: Order. I think that question possibly could be asked when we come to consider the Bill.
