  1. To ask the Minister for Education whether, in the light of the Government's Merger proposals, he will consider finalising at an early date the status of Nanyang University and its relationship with Government.

Mr Speaker: The Member for Anson not being here, the Prime Minister and the other Minister concerned will no doubt send copies of their answers to the Clerk.

Mr Speaker: Is it a Ministerial Statement?

Mr Yong Nyuk Lin: Yes, Sir, if I may, in lieu of oral question No. 3, because of public interest, make a Ministerial statement.

Mr Speaker: The Minister is entitled to make a Ministerial statement. I am just wondering whether the Prime Minister and the Minister for Finance would also like to do the same. I do not know. Before I call upon the -

The Prime Minister: Mr Speaker, Sir, we are ready to oblige the Member for Anson even in his absence.
