HARI RAYA PUASA

Mrs Seow Peck Leng asked the Minister for Home Affairs whether he would consider giving two days' holiday to Muslims for Hari Raya Puasa when Hari Raya Puasa falls on the day after the gazetted holiday.

Mr Ong Pang Boon: Mr Speaker, Sir, on occasions when Han Raya Puasa falls on the day after the gazetted holiday, the practice has been, after consultation with the Muslim Advisory Board, not to declare an additional holiday, but for the Government to give Muslim Government servants time off in the morning to perform their prayers. Under merger, public holidays other than State holidays will be a Federal responsibility.
