The Deputy Prime Minister (Dr Toh Chin Chye): Mr Speaker, I beg to move,

Notwithstanding the resolution of the Assembly on Monday, 8th April, 1963 -

(a) that this Assembly do sit after 12 midnight today;

(b) that the proceedings on item 4 on the Order Paper be exempted from the provisions of Standing Order No. 1;

(c) that at the conclusion of the proceedings on item 4 on the Order Paper, this Assembly do stand adjourned to 7th June, 1963.

Mr Speaker, in explanation of this motion, I would like to inform the House that yesterday the House passed a motion approving that at the rising of the Assembly today we adjourn to the 7th of June, 1963. As Members of the House are aware, 12 o'clock midnight is the end of Tuesday, and it would, therefore, be impossible for this Assembly to sit after 12 o'clock midnight. In order to remove this anomaly, we have therefore moved this motion.

Mr Speaker: A motion of this nature would really have needed notice, but it can be moved under the provisions of Standing Order 99 if this House assents, ff there is one negative voice, then the motion cannot be moved, is it the pleasure then of this Assembly that the motion be moved?

No dissentient voice. I will therefore propose the Question. The motion is debatable.

Question proposed.

[No Member wishing to speak.]

Question put, and agreed to.

Resolved,

Notwithstanding the resolution of the Assembly on Monday, 8th April, 1963-

(a) that this Assembly do sit after 12 midnight today;

(b) that the proceedings on item 4 on the Order Paper be exempted from the provisions of Standing Order No. 1;

(c) that at the conclusion of the proceedings on item 4 on the Order Paper, this Assembly do stand adjourned to 7th June, 1963.
