ROAD IN KAMPONG CHIA HENG, MERGUI ROAD, JOO AVENUE AND STARLIGHT ROAD (Road repair and installation of street lights)

Mr Lin You Eng asked the Prime Minister (i) when will Government repair the road in Kampong Chia Heng, Mergui Road, Joo Avenue and Starlight Road, and (ii) when will street lights be installed in these roads.

The Prime Minister: Sir, some time before the Member for Moulmein took notice of these matters, the Director of Public Works had already served notices on the frontagers of Mergui Road and Joo Avenue of his intention to make up these roads under section 143 of the Local Government Ordinance. The roads will be made up and will also be provided with street lights. Street lights were already installed at Kampong Chia Heng on 6th July, 1961. No doubt, the residents of Starlight Road and Kampong Chia Heng will make their views known to me when I visit the Moulmein area shortly.
