Mr Tan Cheng Tong asked the Prime Minister what is the total expenditure incurred from Government funds on his tours of the Anson, Tanjong Pagar, Telok Ayer and Hong Lim Constituencies on 14th July, 1963.

The Prime Minister: Sir, the total expenditure incurred from Government funds was the cost of petrol used by the vehicles of the official party accompanying me, amounting to approximately $6.80.

Mr Tee Kim Leng (Pasir Panjang): (In Mandarin): Mr Speaker, Sir, may I ask the Prime Minister whether this sum of $6.80 included the wages paid to the members of the Work Brigade as they had to put up banners and other decorations?

The Prime Minister: I think the Member for Pasir Panjang will be advised to make his enquiries in a much more discreet and polite manner from the Committees in the Tanjong Pagar, Kreta Ayer, Anson, Hong Lim and Telok Ayer areas.
