Order read for resuming adjourned debate on Amendment [9th December, 1963] to Question [9th December, 1963],

"That the following Address in reply to the speech of the Yang di-Pertuan Negara be agreed to: -

`We, the Legislative Assembly of the State of Singapore, express our thanks to the Yang di-Pertuan Negara for the speech which he delivered on behalf of the Government on the 29th November, 1963.'.". -[Prime Minister].

Which Amendment was, at end, to add ---

"; but this Assembly regrets that the Government in helping to impose Malaysia on the people has caused great difficulties and hardships to them in Singapore and urges the Government to take immediate steps to persuade the Central Government to get rid of foreign interference, negotiate with the Indonesian Government, and resolve all existing differences to our mutual benefit, and so help to bring stability, peace and prosperity to South-East Asia". - [Mr Chia Thye Poh].

Question again proposed, "That the words proposed to be added, be there added.".

Dr Toh Chin Chye: Mr Speaker, the debate of the last week has exposed the Barisan Sosialis in their true colours as a group of people who are willing to betray the security of Malaysia. I do not think the people are so naive as to believe that the Barisan Assemblymen and Representatives in the Dewan Ra'ayat in Kuala Lumpur were sincere when they took the oath of loyalty that they will defend Malaysia.

Mr Speaker: Mr Deputy Prime Minister, at the adjournment of the debate, the Member for Bukit Panjang had the Floor. I thought the Deputy Prime Minister was about to move a motion. If he is not moving a motion, then I have to give the Member the Floor. I am sorry for the interruption.
