Mr Chia Thye Poh asked the Minister for National Development whether he is aware that the following tracks in the Jurong area are in a state of disrepair and whether he will take steps to have them repaired: (i) Tuas Road; (ii) Track 37 (Lokyang Road); (iii) Track 18.
The Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for National Development (Mr Ho Cheng Choon) (for the Minister for National Development): Sir, (i) a proposal to metal Jalan Tuas has been approved by the Urban and Rural Services Consultative Committee. Metalling of this road from Jurong Road to the Chinese temple will be carried out by the Singapore Work Brigade soon.
(ii) A proposal to repair Track 37 (Lokyang Road) was considered by the Urban and Rural Services Consultative Committee. The Urban and Rural Services Consultative Committee visited Jalan Tuas and Lokyang Road on the 13th of June, 1964, following which proposals for their improvement were approved. Track 37 (Lokyang Road) was repaired and railings were provided at two bridges along the road some time ago.
(iii) Members of the Citizens Consultative Committee have asked for Track 18, Jurong, to be repaired. A proposal to make up this road to agricultural road standard is being considered by the Urban and Rural Services Consultative Committee.
Mr Chia Thye Poh (Jurong) rose ---
Mr Speaker: Mr Chia Thye Poh, a supplementary question?
Mr Chia Thye Poh: Yes. (In Mandarin) I would like to ask the Minister concerned whether he knows that Lokyang Road, in spite of certain repairs having been carried out to it, is again in a state of disrepair; and whether the Government considers to re repair it? When can the repair be done to Track 18 because the road is now in a state of utter disrepair?
Mr Ho Cheng Choon: Mr Speaker, Sir, regarding Lokyang Road and Track 18, the Urban and Rural Services Consultative Committee will look into them, and if the repair is necessary, of course, it will be considered.
