[Mr Speaker in the Chair]
Mr Ng Yeow Chong asked the Minister for Health if he will take steps for the removal of litter in Kampong Amber.
The Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Health (Mr Sia Kah Hui) (for the Minister for Health): I have been asked by the Minister to reply.
Kampong Amber in Mountbatten Constituency has been serviced by the Kampong Sanitation Service (as distinct from the Public Cleansing Service for built-up areas) which consists of house-to-house refuse collection done daily by labourers from the Public Health Division. Also, the existing earth drains are being maintained by workers of the Anti-Mosquito Department, and weekly oiling of drains and pools in the Kampong are being carried out to keep public health nuisances to a minimum.
The removal of litter around houses is a personal responsibility of individual householders who are expected to co-operate by maintaining their compounds and surroundings in a tidy state.
