IMPROVEMENT OF DRAINAGE IN KAMPONG AMBER

Mr Ng Yeow Chong asked the Minister for Law and National Development if steps will be taken to improve the drainage in Kampong Amber.

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for National Development (Mr Ho Cheng Choon) (for the Minister for Law and National Development): The area around Kampong Amber is low-lying and some parts are approximately two feet below high tide level. The whole area is privately-owned and the Government cannot undertake the cost of raising it above the tide level.
