Mr Ng Kah Ting asked the Deputy Prime Minister whether and when a Pedestrian Crossing will be established at the 7 1/2 milestone, Upper Serangoon Road.

The Minister of State for the Prime Minister's Department (Inche Yaacob bin Mohamed Al-Haj) (for the Deputy Prime Minister): (In Malay): Mr Speaker, Sir, under present circumstances my Ministry has no intention to establish a pedestrian crossing at 7½ milestone, Upper Serangoon Road. The locality around is not heavily populated. The residential area here is widely spread. There are three schools in the locality with school signs to warn motorists, and each school has a traffic warden to assist school children to cross the road during peak hours. Although traffic is quite heavy in the morning and the afternoon, it is not so throughout the day and people can safely cross the road.
