CONSTRUCTION OF COMMUNITY CENTRE FOR MOULMEIN (Commencement and completion dates)

[Mr Speaker in the Chair]

Mrs Devan Nair asked the Minister of Defence when construction of the proposed Community Centre for Moulmein will commence and the estimated date for its completion.

The Minister of State of Defence (Mr Wee Toon Boon) (for the Minister of Defence): Mr Speaker, Sir, the Minister has promised the hon. Member the last time she raised the subject that we are making a special effort to build a community centre in her constituency. I am glad to report that the work on site clearance for the proposed community centre at the junction of Balestier Road and Shan Road has already commenced and the erection of the two-storey building will commence shortly as soon as tender proceedings are completed. It is expected that the project will be completed by November this year.
