Public Utilities

The growth of the Public Utilities Board's operations in recent years has been unprecedented.

Electrical sales have risen at an annual rate of 15 per cent. Of this, the demands from industries have increased at a phenomenal rate of 23 per cent. To meet this, the Public Utilities Board having completed the construction of the Pasir Panjang `B' Power Station in 1966, has now begun construction of the Jurong Power Station. The first two units will be completed in 1969 at a total cost of $82 million.

The Johore River Waterworks was commissioned in July 1967. Work has commenced on the Seletar Project, which will be completed in 1970. Several other projects to increase yield and storage in Singapore are under way.

An indication of the rapid expansion is that $63 million was in 1967 for capital development, whilst $140 million is budgeted for 1968.
