Mr L. P. Rodrigo asked the Minister for Education what administrative work is required of (a) a head of school; and (b) a teacher.

Dr Lee Chiaw Meng (for the Minister for Education): Mr Speaker, Sir, with due respect to the Member for Serangoon Gardens, I must point out that it is not possible to list all the administrative duties of a school principal, just as it is impossible to make an exhaustive list of the work expected of a Member of Parliament. In general terms, I would say that a principal is expected to do whatever is necessary to ensure that his school functions efficiently.

Similarly, a teacher is expected to carry out administrative duties related to the administration of his own class and the extra-curricular activities of which he is in charge.
