Mr L. P. Rodrigo asked the Minister for Defence (a) how many cases of suicides were recorded for the period 1st January, 1967, to 30th June, 1968; and (b) how many of the recorded cases may be said to be anomic.

Mr Lim Kim San: A total of 196 cases of suicides were recorded during the period 1st January, 1967 to 30th June, 1968. On the basis that no one in a normal state of mind will commit suicide, 100 per cent of the recorded cases can be said to be anomic.
