Mr Hwang Soo Jin asked the Minister for Communications if he will make a statement on the reported resignations of some senior officials of the Port of Singapore Authority recently, and whether those resignations are likely to have adverse effects upon the administration of the Authority.

Mr Yong Nyuk Lin: Although seven senior officers have left the service of the Port of Singapore Authority within the last five months, I can assure the Member for Jalan Kayu that these resignations are not likely to have any adverse effects on the continued efficient administration of the Authority. Of the seven who have left the service of the P.S.A. for various reasons, four were expatriate officers. Of these, one has had his contract of service terminated by the Authority, and three resigned to take up appointments in Fiji, the United Kingdom, and in the World Bank respectively. Of the three local officers who have resigned, one decided not to renew his contract of service and has since joined the Development Bank of Singapore, whilst the other two have decided to join local commercial firms to better their prospects.
