NEW POLICE UNIFORM (Additional expenditure)

Mr P. Govindaswamy asked the Minister for Defence whether and what additional expenditure has been incurred by the issue of the new uniform to Police personnel.

The Minister for Defence (Mr Lim Kim San): Mr Speaker, Sir, no additional expenditure was incurred for the issue of the newly-designed uniforms to police personnel as these uniforms were issued in lieu of the old type uniforms. And, in any case, these uniforms were due for replacement.

Mr P. Govindaswamy: Mr Speaker, Sir, I would like to know what happened to the old uniforms?

Mr Lim Kim San: The old uniforms were worn out.
