Mr Tay Boon Too asked the Minister for Law and National Development whether and what development plans the Government has for the Paya Lebar Constituency, especially the area bounded by Airport Road, Kim Chuan Road and the Upper Paya Lebar Road.
Mr E. W. Barker: Mr Speaker, Sir, there are no immediate major development proposals in the Paya Lebar Constituency other than proposals for extending and improving Paya Lebar International Airport.
Mr Tay Boon Too (Paya Lebar): (In Mandarin): Mr Speaker, Sir, is it possible for the Minister to give the House more details of the proposals to develop Paya Lebar International Airport?
Mr Barker: Mr Speaker, Sir, there are plans for extending the length of the runway. In the long term, there is also a plan to build a second runway parallel to and to the west of the existing runway. This proposal was recommended by the Airport consultants to be constructed by 1982. This is still under examination as there is also a proposal to extend the Airport at Changi.
