Mr Yeo Choo Kok asked the Minister for Law and National Development if there are plans (i) to widen Prince Philip Avenue so that residents can park their cars on both sides of the road without impeding traffic; and (ii) to install street lights along the footpath next to the Alexandra Road Market as undesirable elements have made use of the darkness in that area to commit robberies from time to time.

The Minister for Law and National Development (Mr E. W. Barker): Mr Speaker, Sir, I regret to inform the Member for Delta that there is no plan to widen Prince Philip Avenue because there is not sufficient land on either side of the road for road widening.

The P.W.D, has no plan for the installation of street lights along the footpath next to the Alexandra Road Market. However, the Urban and Rural Services Committee will be pleased to consider an application from the Member or from his Citizens' Consultative Committee for the installation of lights along this footpath.
