Mr Cheong Yuen Chee asked the Minister for Communications if he will consider putting up more post-boxes in Toa Payoh pending the construction of a post office there.
Mr Phua Bah Lee (for the Minister for Communications): Sir, I have been asked by my Minister to answer.
Toa Payoh has been provided with three posting boxes located as follows:
(i) Junction of Lorong IA and Lorong 2:
(ii) Junction of Lorong 3 and Lorong 4;
(iii) Lorong 6 (near its junction with Toa Payoh East).
These posting boxes are so located that the nearest posting facilities can be reached within a half-mile distance.
Pending the establishment of a proper post office in the estate by January or February 1971 (that is, in about a month's time), additional posting facilities are also being presently provided by a mobile post office which calls at the car park opposite the junction of Lorong 4 and Toa Payoh Central daily, except Sundays and public holidays.
The provision of more posting facilities is all the time being considered, and additional posting boxes will progressively be installed at suitable locations in the estate to meet the needs of the residents.
