Mr Teong Eng Siong asked the Minister for Law and National Development when work will start on the proposed seaside park in the Sembawang Constituency.

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Law and National Development (Mr Ho Cheng Choon) (for the Minister for Law and National Development): Mr Speaker, Sir, the Port of Singapore Authority has earmarked the Sembawang seaside park for expansion of the Sembawang port. In exchange for the park plan, the Port of Singapore Authority is prepared to reclaim an equivalent area of foreshore to be developed as a seaside park in Sembawang. My Ministry is discussing this proposal with the PSA. If agreement is reached for the exchange of sites, reclamation work is expected to commence in early 1974, and the seaside park can be built only after reclamation work is completed.
