The Minister for Finance (Mr Hon Sui Sen): Mr Speaker. Sir, I beg to move the motion* standing in my name under item No. 4 in the Order Paper.

  • The. motion reads as follows:

'That this Parliament pursuant to Section 7 of the Civil List and Pension Act (Chapter 52) resolves that the Schedule to the said Act be varied by deleting the figures "$187,050", "$823,250", "$200,170" and "$17,750" appearing in the second column thereof and substituting thereof the figures "$208,200", "$894,400", "$214,580" and "$5700" respectively,'

Sir, it is proposed to increase the provisions for the Privy Purse by $21,150 and the salaries of personal staff by $71 .150. The increase is largely required to meet the 1975 NWC wage supplement and the annual increment of salaries of staff.

The increase under Class III expenditure is mainly required to meet the cost of repairs of furniture and higher maintenance costs. For Class IV, however, a lesser provision is now required.

It is, therefore, necessary to vary the provisions in the Schedule to the Civil List as follows:-

for the "Privy Purse" from $187,050 to $208,200;

for "Salaries of Personal Staff" from $823,250 to $894,400;

for "Expenses of Household" from $200,170 to $214,580; and

for "Special Services" from $13,750 to $5,700.

Sir, I beg to move,

Question put, and agreed to.

Resolved,

That this Parliament, pursuant to section 7 of the Civil List and Pension Act (Chapter 521, resolves that the Schedule to the said Act be varied by deleting tie figures "$187,050". "$823,25O","$200,17O" and "$13,750" appearing in the second column thereof and substituting therefor the figures "$208,200". "$894,400". "$214,580" and "$5,700" respectively.
