Mr Cheong Yuen Chee asked the Minister for National Development and Communications whether there are any plans to develop the vacant plot of land between the Toa Payoh Sports Stadium and the Swimming Complex into tennis or squash courts or other recreational facilities for the benefit of the residents of Toa Payoh New Town.
Dr Tan Eng Liang (for the Minister for National Development and Communications): Mr Speaker, Sir, the vacant site between the Toa Payoh Sports Stadium and the Swimming Complex is reserved for an indoor sports hall for indoor games, like badminton, basketball, volleyball, etc. It will be modelled along the lines of the Alexandra Road Sports Hall which is under construction. The design of the Toa Payoh Sports Hall will take into account the experience gained in the construction and use of the Alexandra Road Sports Hall.
