The Senior Minister of State for Finance (Dr Tan Eng Liang): Mr Speaker, Sir, I beg to move the motion* standing in the name of the Minister for Finance as it appears on the Order Paper.

*The motion reads as follows:

That this Parliament, pursuant to section 3 of the Departmental Titles (Alteration) Act (Chapter 53), resolves that the Schedule to the said Act be amended by the addition under the headings of "Old Title or Name of Office" and "New Title or Name of Office" respectively of the following:-- Old Title or Name of Office New Title or Name of Office Comptroller of Customs and Director-General of Customs Excise. and Excise. Deputy Comptroller of Deputy Director-General of Customs and Excise. Customs and Excise Assistant Comptroller of Director of Customs and Customs and Excise. Excise.

Sir, these amendments to the Departmental Titles (Alteration) Act are necessitated by the amendments made to the departmental titles in the Customs (Amendment) Act, 1978. The Customs (Amendment) Act, 1978, was passed by Parliament on 14th June, 1978, and assented to by the President on 15th July, 1978 and will come into operation on 1st August, 1978.
