COMMITTEE OF SELECTION (Appointment of Members)

The Leader of the House (Mr E.W. Barker): Mr Speaker, Sir, following the resignation of the Member for Geylang West, Mr Yong Nyuk Lin, may I seek your concurrence and under Standing Order No. 34 to alter the terms of my Motion* for the appointment of Members of the Committee of Selection, by substituting the name "Mr Phey Yew Kok" for "Mr Yong Nyuk Lin", appearing in the last line thereof.

*The motion reads as follows:-- That this Parliament, in accordance with paragraph (1) of Standing Order 95, appoints the following as Members of the Committee of Selection:-- Mr E.W. Barker Mr Phua Bah Lee Mr Sia Kah Hui Dr Augustine H.H. Tan Dr Tan Eng Liang Mr Yeo Choo Kok Mr Yong Nyuk Lin.

Mr Speaker: The proposed alteration does not infringe the provisos in the Standing Orders, Mr Barker, you may therefore proceed.

Mr Barker: Mr Speaker, Sir, I beg to move,

That this Parliament, in accordance with paragraph (1) of Standing Order 95, appoints the following as Members of the Committee of Selection: - Mr E.W. Barker Mr Phua Bah Lee Mr Sia Kah Hui Dr Augustine H.H. Tan Dr Tan Eng Liong Mr Yeo Choo Kok Mr Phey Yew Kok.

Sir, it is desirable that we should appoint the Committee early so that Members of the Selection Committee can appoint Members of the other Committees of this House.
