Mr Rohan bin Kamis asked the Minister for National Development if he is aware of the numerous complaints by the residents of top floors of Housing and Development Board flats of low water pressure; what steps have been taken to rectify the problem; what is the progress of the correction programme, and what can the residents do to help alleviate the problem.
Mr Lee Yock Suan (for the Minister for National Development): Mr Speaker, Sir, the HDB is aware of the problem of low water pressure at the top floors of HDB blocks. An improvement programme is in progress to install separate downfeed pipes to increase the flow of water to the top two floors of high-rise blocks. 1,971 blocks are included in the programme and 62% have undergone improvements so far. The programme will be fully completed by March next year.
There is no necessity for residents to take further measures, beyond what HDB is already doing, to alleviate the problem. It would be helpful, however, if residents understand the nature of the problem and HDB's remedial action.
