The Minister for Finance, Minister for Education and Minister for Health (Dr Tony Tan Keng Yam): Mr Speaker, Sir, I beg to move the motion* standing in my name in the Order Paper.
*The motion reads as follows:--
That, notwithstanding the Standing Orders, an additional day, namely, Tuesday, 19th March, 1985 be allotted for the debate on the Motion for approval of the financial policy of the Government for the financial year 1st April, 1985 to 31st March, 1986 moved by the Minister for Finance on 8th March, 1985.
Sir, 36 Members have indicated that they would like to speak in the Budget debate and it is unlikely that we would be able to finish it in one day. The purpose of this motion, Sir, is to provide an additional day for the debate on the Budget Statement.
Question put, and agreed to.
