Mr Leong Horn Kee asked the Acting Minister for Trade and Industry, in view of the recent drastic fall in oil prices, when and by how much the next revision of Public Utilities Board tariffs will be made.
Dr Lee Boon Yang (for the Acting Minister for Trade and Industry): Mr Speaker, Sir, the Public Utilities Board reviews its electricity and gas tariffs once every three months and adjusts them according to international fuel prices.
In response to declining oil prices, PUB reduced electricity tariffs by 5% on 1st November 1985, and by another 4% on 1st February 1986. As a result, savings of $144 million per annum have been passed on to consumers.
The next adjustment is due on the 1st of May. The size of the adjustment will only be known in April 1986.
