Mr J.B. Jeyaretnam asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs whether any request has been received from any quarter for Mr Marcos, late of the Philippines, to be allowed to reside in Singapore.
Mr Dhanabalan: Mr Speaker, Sir, the Singapore Ambassador in Manila issued a press statement on the subject on 19th March, 1986, and I have no further comments to make. The press statement has already been circulated to Members.
Mr Jeyaretnam: Mr Speaker, Sir, is the Minister aware that this statement was seen by me only this morning? But would he answer whether there has been any further request from any quarter after Mr Marcos left Manila for Honolulu?
Mr Dhanabalan: Mr Speaker, Sir, first of all, this press statement was reported extensively in the local papers, and the press statement was issued first thing this morning. Paragraph 2 makes it quite clear when the subsequent contacts were made.
