Mr Heng Chiang Meng asked the Minister for National Development if he will give the name, size, location, commencement date of construction and the estimated date of completion of the proposed New Town in the vicinity of Jalan Kayu.
Mr S. Dhanabalan: The name of the proposed new town in the vicinity of Jalan Kayu has not been decided. HDB will consult the MP of the area before doing so. Its proposed size is about 30,000 dwelling units and is located north of the existing Yio Chu Kang Road. In their planning, the HDB expects the construction to commence in the late 1990's. Normally a new town takes about 10 to 15 years to complete.
