Mr Ng Kah Ting asked the Minister for Communications and Information whether and when a post office will be built in Hougang New Town.

The Senior Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Communications and Information (Mr Ho Kah Leong) (for the Minister for Communications and Information): Sir, I have been asked by my Minister to reply.

I am pleased to inform the Member for Punggol that Hougang New Town will be served by two post offices. Presently, Hougang South Post Office is located at Block 106, Hougang Avenue 1. This post office was opened on 21st January 1985 and serves Neighbourhoods 1, 2 and 3. The second post office, Hougang Central Post Office, will be located in the Town Centre at Hougang New Town and is expected to be completed in 1989. This post office will serve neighbourhoods 4, 5, 6 and 7.

Telecoms is presently liaising with the Resident Committees of Punggol. This feedback would be valuable in assisting in the set-up of a postal agency or temporary post office to serve residents in Neighbourhoods 5, 6 and 7, pending the completion of the Town Centre.
